Kantha stitch embroidery is a simple quilting stitch that comes from Bangladesh and west Bengal. The word 'Kantha' in Hindi relates to the telling of a story, and so the village women would tell stories with their stitching. The most common type of Kantha embroidery is a simple running stitch in very dense vertical lines, telling the story of the monsoon rains.
